Nearly a year after he reportedly forced a 13-year-old into a Greenacres-area apartment and inappropriately touched the young teen, a 22-year-old man has been arrested on sexual battery and kidnapping charges.

Markendel Alexis was booked Friday evening into the Palm Beach County Jail, where he is being held without the possibility of posting bond. A judge ordered he not have contact with anyone under the age of 18, nor can he go to the Greenacres-area apartment complex. The Post is not naming the exact location of the complex to protect the child’s identity.

The 13-year-old and some friends were doing laundry on the evening of Feb. 27 in the laundry room at the complex, the child told Palm Beach County sheriff’s authorities. Alexis reportedly approached the kids and started talking to them about fishing. He then invited them to his apartment so he could give them fishing supplies.

When they reached the back porch of the apartment, Alexis allegedly grabbed the 13-year-old by the shoulders and pulled the child inside.

The man pushed the child onto a couch and inappropriately touched the 13-year-old until a neighbor began banging on the window.

“I tell him not to (touch me), but he didn’t listen,” the child told sheriff’s authorities according to an arrest report.

Another child ran home and told an adult something had happened to the 13-year-old. The child directed the man to Alexis’ apartment, where the man saw Alexis inappropriately touching the child.

When Alexis heard the man banging on the window, he pulled on the child’s clothes and rushed out of the apartment, records state.

Alexis was arrested in June near that complex after the owner found him in a vacant apartment. He pleaded guilty and spent four days in jail for providing sheriff’s deputies with a false identity, court records show.

By September, sheriff’s authorities suspected Alexis in the sexual battery, and last month the child identified him in a photo lineup, records state.
