A current and a former Martin County commissioner face charges of public records violations, according to the sheriff’s office.

Commissioner Sarah Heard and former County Commissioner Anne Scott surrendered to the Martin County Jail Thursday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said. Both face two counts of public records violations and were released on their own recognizance soon after.

Scott was arrested on similar charges in November along with current Commissioner Edward Fielding. Around the same time, Heard was given a non-criminal citation for public records violations as well.

The charges stem from a lawsuit with Lake Point Restoration mining company. The Company sued Martin County, the South Florida Water Management District and a former commissioner and environmentalist, Maggy Hurchalla in 2014 for public record violations — in which they requested personal emails of commissioners surrounding a land agreement — and won the case in February 2017.

Arrest reports for Scott and Heard were not available Thursday evening.
