Darrell Crews of St. Augustine High School is charged with video voyeurism

The head athletic trainer at St. Augustine High School was arrested Sunday night amid allegations he secretly recorded videos of a female student topless on his cellphone.

Darrell Andrew Crews, 38, was booked on a charge of video voyeurism and was released the next day on $1,500 bail, according to St. Johns County jail records.

Crews coached the Yellow Jackets’ girls flag football team that was in its inaugural season. He told deputies he has worked for the school district for 13 years.

Superintendent Tim Forson issued a statement in reference to Crews’ arrest.

“I am appalled by the behavior of Mr. Crews. This conduct is inexcusable and reprehensible. I am recommending his termination to the School Board at its meeting on April 14,” Forson said.

The Sheriff’s Office redacted the victim’s name and age as well as the time frame from the arrest report. But according to an unredacted version obtained by The St. Augustine Record, the victim is now an adult whom Crews had befriended at the time. She was secretly recorded while she changed clothes after school.

Crews sent the victim a nude photo of herself Saturday and asked if she knew it was being transmitted, his charging affidavit indicates.

“The victim was shocked and confused of how a nude photo of her could be in anyone’s possession,” she told deputies, according to the report.

Crews told her someone anonymously forwarded the photo to his personal email. But the victim recognized something in the background of the photo that helped her pinpoint a location and approximate date the photo was taken. She told deputies it was just before her 18th birthday, according to the unredacted report.

When the victim told Crews to stop contacting her, he texted her 25 times asking her to delete all communications he had with her and not to tell anyone, according to the arrest report.

When deputies questioned Crews on Sunday, he cooperated.
